And a way we go.....
Weight for me was never a issue until a few years ago. I have always been some what of a big guy. In high school, in a science class, it was asked who was the largest person in the class weight size. It was me at almost 200 lbs. It really did not both me. I stayed active swimming almost every day during the summer.
As I left my high school years, weight was a thing that was always in flux. I went on a mission for my church weighing almost 250 lbs and came home under 200 lbs. As I got married and my weight would go up and down as I worked a demanding job and went to school.
By my 30's I was still working and very active. But my weight was now over 300 lbs. During this time I was racing cars and having a driver that is heavy is a penalty of the total weight of the car by 100 to 150 pounds. But it still did not bother me, even though my dad was after me to lose the weight. At the same time I am working out, to build my strength and endurance, but was not losing any weight. I was healthier, but not lighter.
Now in my 40's things changed. Life changed. My mom got sick and died, lost my job that I had had for 17 years, and my married ended. Food became my comfort. A large pizza was easy to consume in one meal. Jack in the Box was my best friend. And at this point I lost everything.
In 2014 I got a job finally with American Airlines and things were looking up. But in 2016 I got pneumonia, which put me in the hospital. I had it so bad it almost killed me. I spent about month in the hospital, and a few weeks in a rehab center to relearn how to breath. Going into the hospital, I was 450 lbs plus. The doctors there said that many of the causes of my bad health was my weight.
I left the rehab center on oxygen and weighing around 440 lbs. My main goal at the time was to get off the oxygen. The way I was going to do this was to start eating right and to start walking. The first walk was not very far with the aid of the oxygen. As I walked more and more, I went forth and forth and I would start turning off the oxygen tank on these walks. With in months I was was walking over a mile. By the end of the year I was off the Oxygen. I was also under 400 lbs.
During this time I was in a long distance relationship and as I was getting off the oxygen, this relationship was ending. My old friend food came to comfort me. And walking just did not seem important. A few months later I met another girl, that saw the value of me. She Challenged me to start eating right again. This challenge has turned into walking again and even going to the gym.

ReplyDeleteGood for you Bill! I could have never made it as far as I have without surgery and it was by far the best decision (besides marrying Donny) that I’ve ever made for myself. You have tons of support and it seems like your head is in the right place!
