Vacation Worries

Just got back from a week stay in Ventura, California.  What a great place to stay.  But the week before our vacation I was worried that being on vacation. Could I slip backwards from all the hard work that I have down the past two months.

First worry:  What to eat.  Who eats good when they are on vacation?  This was something new for me.  They only thing I could think that would be good would be In and Out Burger.  I could eat a double-double protein style with no problem.  I have been doing that for over a year.  But what about the other times.

The first day we went to one of my girlfriend's family favorite places to eat, Duke's.  I knew they had hamburger, but I really loved there fish tacos.  So the first time, we went I got the fish tacos with no tortilla and grilled.  Come to find out, I really do not love grilled fish.  I ate it, but never ordered it like that again.  We went back three more times.  Fish tacos, fried and with flour tortilla, chili cheese hot dog, no bum, and a hamburger with no bum.  I did have one onion ring.

We also at with her brothers family.  There we had lasagna, with two pieces of bread.  We also had home made pizzas on pita bread.  This was the first time I had bread of any kind in two months.  And you know, I had it, and I have not had it since.

We even went to Red Robin and I got a hamburger with out a the bun, and bottomless salad.  Never thought I would have two helpings of salad.

And yes, we had In and Out.  I had my double-double.  And one fry.  The first time I had a french fry in over 2 months.

Second Worry:  Working out.  Since the middle of June I  have been walking 3 times a week and going to the gym 3 times a week.  So could I keep up the standards?

No!  The plan was to walk on the beach everyday.  We made it out there 2 times.  My steps per day were down below 3000 steps, only broke 3000 steps only one day.

Conclusion:  Was it a failure?  On the working out yes, we could have keep up on the step standards, but didn't.  But in saying that I did things I never do, Stairs.  To go over to her brothers place I had to go up two flights of stairs.  I did this three times.  At the hotel, there were many days that we walked down the stairs to the Ice Machine, and then to the ground floor.  Even though my steps were down, the quality of steps were up.

Plus, how do people really run in sand.  I have a hard time walking in it.  I did it twice and it was not easy.  But I did it.  Last year I was there twice, and not once did I go down to the water.

On eating?  It is all about making smart choices.  We had prepared really well with smart snacks.  I look back on this and really do not feel like I was denied anything in my eating.  When I say this, I don't  feel like there was something that I really wanted and did not get.  Except popcorn, but that may be for another blog.

All in all I did not gain or lose weight.  Lets see how I do in Ireland!
